Saving Fruit, One Bottle at a Time
Every year in the UK, million tonnes of food is wasted before it even reaches our plates. A staggering amount of that is perfectly delicious fruit, rejected for being the wrong shape, size, or colour.
At Penrhos Spirits, we're on a mission to change that - one bottle at a time.
How the story started
That mission became even more personal following a challenging season on the farm. After extreme weather conditions, Charlie was left with over thousands of pounds worth of fruit, he simply couldn’t sell. Fruit that was perfectly good, but no longer viable for the traditional market.
What could have been just a difficult loss became a turning point. Instead, it sparked a new way of thinking: how to give that “wonky” fruit a second home.
That moment laid the foundations for Penrhos Spirits, transforming surplus produce into something of lasting value and ensuring that great fruit would never go to waste again.

Sometimes innovation really does come from happy accidents. Our story started with a wonky blueberry.
What began as an attempt to create a blueberry gin didn’t quite go to plan and at the time it felt like a setback.
But it led us to something even better. Instead, we created our beautifully smooth London Dry, crafted using rescued fruit we couldn’t bear to see go to waste.
We now use 10g of wonky blueberries in every distillation.
Our Fruit-Saving Number
To date, Penrhos Spirits has saved lots and lots of wonky bluberries from going to waste - and that number grows with every batch we distil.
It's our promise to keep pushing this number higher, working with more farmers, rescuing more fruit.
