It’s Elderflower harvest time at Penrhos!

It’s Elderflower harvest time at Penrhos!

June brings Elderflower to Penrhos, which means we all head out to the hedgerows to locate the wonderful flowers and get picking. Even Rolo and Bertie had to help this year!

As Penrhos fans you will know that we have an Apple and Elderflower gin, which means our Elderflower is extremely important to us. We keep an eye out on the hedges and once the Elderflower is ready we gently snip off the flower heads with as little stalk as possible so that the plant is not damaged and are make sure we carefully transport them back to the distillery.

Once the elderflower is safely back in the distillery we begin the process of infusing it with alcohol. This means that we can use it throughout the year to make our Apple and Elderflower gin, until we are able to pick more the next year! The smell in the distillery is amazing and certainly makes you thirsty for an Apple and Elderflower G&T! (As you can imagine)
